Summer is here and the weather is warm! Time to grab the life jackets and head out to a nearby lake for fun in the sun! We have put a list of Lakes around Danville to take your boat, rent a boat, or just kayak!
Big Bear Lake
It is one of the most popular lakes throughout Southern California. Visitors find plenty of lodging from inexpensive hostels to luxury resorts. Boating opportunities abound with a variety of marinas around the lake offering boat rentals and other services.
Lake Tahoe
It is one of the premier boating lakes in California! Water skiing, wakeboarding, parasailing and other similar water sports are among the main attractions during the summer! The north shore is known as a slightly less developed and less expensive region of the lake than South Lake Tahoe, rivals any development around the Tahoe Basin. Recreation abounds from water skiing and lounging on the beach!
Lake Berryessa
One of the largest bodies of fresh water in California, it offers; boating, water skiing, wake-boarding, tubing and other fast-paced water sports, plus quiet coves for kayaking, swimming and fishing. In the summer, the water can reach 75 degrees! Pleasure Cove Marina offers boat launching, boat and jet ski rentals, houseboat rentals and boat gasoline, as well as camping options.
Shasta Lake
It is above all, a boater’s paradise! The long, winding shoreline provides a seemingly endless number of inlets and bays to explore. Houseboats cruise from cove to cove, usually with scenic views of snow-clad Mount Shasta and the forested shoreline. Because much of the water lies in protected inlets, Shasta doesn’t suffer the stiff winds that many other more exposed lakes do. Waterskiers and other water sports enthusiasts love it!
Cull Canyon Lake
This isn’t a Lake you can necessarily go boating, but you will find a pretty swimming lagoon with clear, refreshing water, a sandy beach, nearby changing rooms and a snack bar. In other words.. this is an ideal spot for youngsters and adults! The key here is that a secondary dam was built adjacent to Cull Canyon Reservoir, and it creates a lagoon that is ideal for swimming!
Lake Tulloch
The water is usually nice and warm in summer, but can also be a bit chilly. There are two great lunch spots on the lake (south shore and Drifter’s) and lots of coves to hide in where the kids love to swim. Offering: Kayaking, Paddling, Jet Skiing, Water Skiing, Wakeboarding, & Fishing, you can’t got wrong!

Los Vaqueros Lake
Enjoy Fishing, Boating, & Hiking! This Lake is a quick drive from Danville! You must rent a boat at the location. Private watercraft are not allowed on the reservoir. This includes all boat types; float tubes, canoes, kayaks and other watercraft.
Del Valle
Del Valle is one of the major Bay Area lakes for boating, fishing and hiking, and one of the few with lakeside camping and access for swimming. Bring an inner tube, or wear a life preserver and simply bob around to cool off.
Lake Chabot
This Lake is best for; Boating, kayaking, and fishing! Other amenities include; picnicking areas, a grassy play area, horseshoe pits, hiking, bicycling, jogging, and running trails! However, swimming IS NOT permitted.
Shadow Cliffs
If you are looking for a place to just swim, fish, paddle board, kayaks, canoes, & pedal boat. Only non-motorized boats allowed!
Contra Loma
The lake’s swim lagoon has a sandy beach with restrooms and a concession stand. It also offers boating, fishing, & sailing.
Discovery Bay
Bethel Harbor seems to be the most popular boat launch, with excellent reviews!
Lake Sonoma
It is a beautiful long narrow reservoir west of Healdsburg and north of Santa Rosa in northern California. The Lake Sonoma Marina offers boat rentals for fishing and water sports. Over 40 miles of hiking and cycling trails surrounding the lake take you through beautiful groves of oak trees and redwoods. The Yorty Creek Recreation Area has a pleasant swimming beach and picnic area.

Lake McClure/McSwain
A great family lake with water skiing, fishing, and camping. Warm summer weather. Clean, fresh water, miles of shoreline and long inlets-all without the big crowds.
Lake Folsom
It is one of those lakes that has something for just about everyone. Sure, there’s water skiing and wakeboarding, camping and swimming, sailing and fishing. But there are also miles of great hiking trails around the lake, popular with horseback riders, mountain bikers, joggers, nature lovers, and day hikers. There are beaches and wake boarding instructors, jet ski camps for kids, bird watching walks, and ice cream vendors.
Don Pedro Lake
This lake has room for all kinds of boaters! Houseboats have miles of shoreline to cruise, while water skiers can spread out across more than a dozen large bays and inlets. Personal watercraft, sailboats, fishing boats, kayaks, and canoes can be seen scattered up and down the snaking channels. Warm summer water makes it a favorite destination for water sports enthusiasts.
