Learn about everything elephant and experience the once-a-year opportunity to tour the elephant barn and see an elephant up close.

Barn tours begin at 10:30am and run every hour until 3:30pm

Elephant Barn tour tickets are $10.00 per person and free for children 2 years and younger. Tour tickets are not included with your Zoo admission.

Event activities include:

-Mock research camp designed to offer guests the opportunity to don binoculars and become a field researcher for the day.

-Elephant Education Stations throughout the Zoo, such as touching gigantic pachyderm bones, holding an eleven-pound tooth, stepping into an elephant-sized footprint and making edible treats for our elephants.

-Circus Finelli, an animal free circus, performance at the Clorox Wildlife Theater at 12:00pm and 2:00pm.

-Once-a-year elephant barn tours where guests can get up-close and personal with one of the Zoo’s four African elephants and learn about the Zoo’s fascinating elephant program from one of their Lead Zookeepers. Behind the Scenes tours of the elephant barn are $10 per person and free for children 2 years and younger. Go into Osh’s stall (our male elephant) and see his elephant size bed and toys. Learn about how we care for our elephants at Oakland Zoo.

*Elephant barn tours are not included with Zoo admission and can be purchased in advance through Eventbrite. in person on the day of the event at either Flamingo Plaza or the elephant exhibit.

All proceeds from Celebrating Elephants Day will be donated to the Amboseli Trust for Elephants, which helps ensure the long-term conservation and welfare of Africa’s elephants through scientific research, training, community outreach, public awareness and advocacy.
